Loved this movie. Great writing, acting and storytelling. Made me laugh and cry.

Christopher Plummer (Captain Von Trapp in the Sound of Music!) gives a stand-out performance as an elderly man diagnosed with terminal cancer - just after coming out. Watching him experience a condensed version of gay culture was amusing and familiar.

Ewan McGregor also gives a brilliant performance as his son Oliver, a graphic artist in East LA, struggling to come to terms with his own upbringing while mourning his father. Not an ideal time to fall in love…or is it?

Hope Beginners doesn’t get overlooked in award season.

There were a few movies I missed out on this summer while traveling. ‘Beginners’ was one of them, and I couldn’t wait to see what all my friends had been talking about. I loved it. Mike Mills is a talent in himself, plus Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer and Melanie Laurent are three actors I happen to think are pretty flawless. Have you seen it? Thoughts? What’s a movie you can watch over and over? Something that makes you happy? Sad? One you thought you’d hate, but didn’t? One you thought you’d love, but didn’t?
